We are funded by the best investors in the world including: a16z, Sequoia, PayPal, Binance Ventures, Coinbase Ventures, Uniswap Labs, Circle Ventures, Delphi Digital, and many more.   ABOUT THE ROLE We're looking for an Engineering Manager to lead our Backend engineering teams at LayerZero. You'll own the people, process, and technical direction for systems handling some of the highest-stakes infrastructure in Web3, while staying technical enough that your engineers actually want your opinion on their architecture.   WHAT YOU'LL DO You came up as an engineer and haven't fully stepped away from it. You'll lead backend teams day-to-day while staying close enough to the work to shape real technical decisions. You lead by doing. When a hard distributed systems problem surfaces, you're in it with your team, not just assigning it. You run architecture and design reviews and can defend a technical position when it matters. You recruit, develop, and retain strong backend engineers and build a team culture around ownership and craft. You work with engineering leadership and other stakeholders to turn roadmap into execution. You spot blockers early, whether technical, process, or organizational, and deal with them before they compound. You hold a high bar for code quality and system reliability.   ABOUT YOU 6+ years of backend engineering experience with 2+ years managing engineering teams in a fast-moving or production-critical environment. Deep experience building and scaling distributed systems, and can get into the weeds on architecture when needed. Proficiency in backend languages like TypeScript; comfortable operating across the stack. Hands-on experience with AWS for deploying and scaling production systems. You've grown engineers through direct feedback and creating space for real ownership. Strong conviction in your technical decisions, but you build alignment rather than push through.
